/ About the project
A rotoscoping study built at the intersection of digital and analogue craft. Working from Jennie's Ruby (Official Album Sampler), each frame was manually traced with markers, scratched with a knife, and layered with paper cutouts to build physical depth and distortion.
The analogue frames were then scanned and composited in Photoshop and After Effects, where digital elements lyrics, title cards, and a phone camera UI overlay were woven into the footage. A deliberate push and pull between the handmade and the digital.

Working across analogue and digital techniques required maintaining consistent motion while embracing the unpredictability of handmade materials. Each frame was traced with markers, scratched with a knife, and layered with paper cutouts while maintaining recognizable movement across the animation.
Because the process was highly manual, inconsistencies in motion, texture, and frame consistency were inevitable. Rather than removing every imperfection, I treated them as part of the visual language, using distortion, rough edges, and material variation to create a more expressive result.
The final task was combining these analogue frames with digital elements without losing their physical character. Scanning, compositing, and adding lyrics, title cards, effects, and a phone camera interface in Photoshop and After Effects helped create a deliberate balance between handmade experimentation and digital refinement.
